Heidi’s Turbo Bites

HEIDI’S turbo bites                    *Adapted from Therapeutic Nutrition Textbook by Dr. Ed Bauman and Jodi Friedlander, N.C. Yields 1 pan of energy bites Ingredients 1 cup lightly toasted walnuts or almonds 1 cup dried figs or dates 2 Tbsp. ground flaxseed 4 Tbsp. organic dark cocoa powder 1 serving protein powder 1 Tbsp. greens powder blend 2 tsp. Maca powder ½ tsp. ground cinnamon ½ tsp. ground turmeric ¼ tsp. ground nutmeg zest of one orange ¼ cup unsweetened shredded coconut 1 Tbsp. raw honey  Optional toppings: ½ cup crushed nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds) Directions Using a food processor, grind the nuts to a coarse powder, put them in a bowl, and set aside. Add figs (or dates) to the food processor with the flaxseed, chocolate powder, the protein and greens powder, maca, spices, and zest.  Process into a paste, adding hot water a little at a time if the mixture is too thick & dry. Add the nuts, coconut & honey. Process until the mixture forms a ball, adding more water if necessary. Press the mixture evenly into an 8×8 pan. Chill in the refrigerator for about 1 hour. Scoop the mixture out of the pan and roll into mini balls. Roll the balls into crushed nuts (optional) and store in the refrigerator.    ...
